Web Site Promotion
by Ruth Smith & Nancy Ann Wartman, Sisters
& Directors w/UBAH
| The most effective way to sell books & get people
interested in joining the business is getting the books
out locally where people can fall in love with them, but
promoting your website will help this part of your
business grow with limitless potential. |
|
| Email Everyone! |
|
Email EVERYONE that you have an email address for:
- family
- friends
- neighbors
- old high school friends
- people from any place you've ever worked
- spouse's friends
- cousins
- EVERYONE!
Don't prejudge who does and doesn't get to hear about these books and the opportunity that they could become a consultant. Let them make their own decisions. The only way they can make their own decisions is for them to be informed and that takes you telling them!
SO, email everyone you know that your website is up and successful.
Have them go see what all the hoopla is all about - the most incredible
books around for children of all ages! Let them know that on the site they
can see all the books and learn more about them, register for a $50 free book drawing each month, register to host an e-show and earn free books for themselves as they share the books with others online thru a special link they'd be given. Also, let them know that this is so great that they could do this too!
Post your website on
Facebook, Twitter, your blog and any other social
networking site you might have. Be aware that
these aren't really advertising avenues, however, it's
fine to share your website here occassionally.
 |
Put
a signature line that goes automatically on the bottom
of every email you
send out. Your email service usually has something like
this. If you mention a special on your signature line,
be sure to keep it updated. |

Here
is a sample email from a new consultant with a website
to family and friends. Feel free to copy, change
and use it how it works best for you.
Hi!
I have such great news to share with you! After
much consideration and research I have started a home
business, Usborne Books and More. They offer
incredible children's books (babies - teens and adults
like them too!) at reasonable prices. You can
visit my website at www.MyUBAM.com/yourID
where you can place an order, begin an e-show
(explained below) and even get started as an Usborne
consultant with me! This would be fun and
profitable to do this together!!!
An e-show is like an online home show, except you don't
have to clean your house or make snacks! :-)
You sign up on my website to begin your
eshow
Email all your online friends and family with your
special link. All orders placed through your link
during the following 10 days you will receive credit
for. All orders are shipped directly to the
customer immediately. At the end of the 10 days
you will receive an email with simple instructions on
how to order your free books! If people don't
order, that's OK - the eshow will go away in 10 days.
No risk - lots of free books to gain!
You could take advantage of the great kit special if you
want to join Usborne as a consultant! I would like
to help you get started!!! You can sign up online
at my website www.MyUBAM.com/yourID
I look forward to hearing what you think about my
website, so take a look and let me know!
Thanks!

| Promoting Your Site |
Promoting
your site on the Internet can be as large or small an
undertaking as you want!
I suggest that you read the chat log from 8/00 about
consultant websites - Nancy Ann conducted this training
and edited the chat so that you could get the most from
it. You might want to get a domain name. I recommend
www.ritzware.com
or
www.GoDaddy.com
for this service and other hosting services. Read all
about that on the log.
AddMe.com is a
promotion site that for free submits your website to
some search engines. As you visit different search
engines you'll usually see a button or link that says
ADD URL or ADD SITE. Click on it and go thru
the process to have your website added. Usually this is
free. There are loads of free ones.
Find directories & listings as you visit sites on
the web - perhaps sites for teachers, parents,
homeschoolers, ADHD, gifted, special needs, science,
early childhood, etc. Some places will let you
simply add your listing, others will want to swap links
with you. That's fine. You can add links on
to the "Your Consultant" page of your site
through the Web Admin page from your MY UBAM page on the
consultant site. Information on HOW to create the
link is on the bottom left on your Web Admin page.
Nancy Ann's favorite book about this subject:
"Increase Your Web Traffic in a Weekend"
We have become students of web site development and
promotion. |

| More ideas... |
Sign
guest books at web sites you visit & include your
web address.
Of course, put your web address on all receipts,
catalogs, flyers, business cards, return address labels,
even as part of you address (often there's space for an
extra line) when ordering stuff online or filling out
surveys & forms, registration forms for soccer
signup, dance classes, scouts, & school forms.
You get the idea,,,just get the site out there for
people to see.
Another suggestion: buy a fine point Sharpie marker
to add your /ID# to the www.myubam.com web address on the
back of the catalogs.
You
could partner with the Women's Media Desk. Every week
you can submit your company news and articles. It is the
perfect PR vehicle for businesswomen who want to reach
the online businesswoman market. Visit http://www.womensmediadesk.com.
Find e-newsletters that need columnists. Subscribe to
them to get a feel for the writing style. Scout
out web sites you would like to write for & send an
inquiry letter to the webmaster or editor.
Keep an ongoing list of email addresses of those who
register &/or purchase from your site & send
them monthly reminders of the specials & to
reregister for the free book drawing.
You will find what is most effective for you.

| Email Lists or Forums |
|
Be
careful to read the rules of email lists and forums -
some allow advertising and some don't. It can be
fun to join an email list or two, build relationships as
you become familiar with other members and then bring
Usborne into the conversation. Building
relationships is as important online as in person, maybe
more important!
The knowledge and contacts you will find can be
invaluable. There
are email lists you can join of women building
home businesses, SAHM's, WAHM's, - the list is
endless. You could join an email list to
network and learn.
| Linking
to specific pages on your site |
| Here are some samples that
you can use to get to specific pages on your
site
SEARCH BY ISBN NUMBER
http://www.myubam.com/ecommerce/details.asp?sid=D0036&isbn=0-7460-3106-8
0-7460-3106-8 is the isbn number and can
either be the full isbn or just the last six
digits.
SEARCH BY TITLE
http://www.myubam.com/ecommerce/details.asp?sid=D0036&number=029438&title=
I+Can+Draw+Animals&sqlwhere=+title+like+%27I+Can+Draw+Animals%27
This is bulky and some are even more
so! It's probably better to give
specific links by series or ISBN number.
SEARCH BY SERIES
http://www.myubam.com/ecommerce/results.asp?sid=d0036&series=Activity+Cards&submit=search
Activity+Cards is the series
name and needs to be exactly like we have it
listed and the "+" sign is used
instead of spaces; otherwise the value will
not be passed correctly. You can pull up a
title in the series to see how we have
listed the series name if there is any
question.
So basically just use the above addresses as
the template and replace my ID # (D0036)
with yours (so they'll purchase from your
site rather than mine). Change the ISBN # (full # or
last 6 digits) to get it to point to the
title you wish to point to. It is that
simple! To point to a series of books
instead of individual titles follow the
second example which is pointing to all of
the Library of Science. You will need
to pull up an individual title in that
series to see exactly how they listed the
series name and then follow the instructions
above.
With direct links in your email mailings
they are much more effective because people
can just click on them and see that
particular book instead of doing a search.
If you make it easy to browse you will make
it easy to buy and increase your web site
sales!! :) There are fantastic
customer specials every two months so do
half the first month and half the second for
your monthly customer specials updates and
see your sales increase!!
