Hostess Coaching...

Edited by Nancy Ann Wartman

Your hostess probably doesn’t know how to have a $500+ show. Do you know how? Sometimes you’ll run into a "party queen", someone who loves to host home shows and she’s REALLY good at it!

Coaching

Does she invite the 7 friends? No, she invites the 40 people she can think of who would love our books!

Does she send the postcard invitation 4 days before the home show and hope her friends attend? No, she calls them to express her excitement of her show and her LOVE for our books, she sends the reminder postcard with a personal note, AND she calls 1-2 days prior to the home show bubbling with excitement over her show and the books.

Does she spend days preparing her fancy buffet and cleaning her house? No, she makes her snacks seem simple and her home feel comfortable. She wants her friends to see how easy it is to have a show, so she can get even MORE books for her children!

Is she bummed when some of her "for sure attending" guests don’t show up? No, she’s excited because she gets to visit them, share the catalog with them, show them her children’s favorite books in the catalog and helps them with their order. She might even take some books along to show them!!!

This great hostesses will do these things well and get LOTS of books! You can coach all your hostesses to do the same, reaping more free books for them and more $’s per hour for you! What is your show average? $200? $400? $500?

Your hostess needs you to help her have a good show.

You want to help her stay motivated (remember what her original motivation was), stay in contact with her weekly before her show and help her by overcoming any objections as they surface. (Objections are a request for more information - see Overcoming Objections page.) Inspire her to share the catalog and any books she has (or that you have loaned her!!!) with her friends who are unable to attend - these outside orders are her "show insurance." The hostesses are less likely to cancel if you stay in contact with them weekly. This helps you too, of course! It’s nice to make twice as much an hour for the work you put into a show. When you have a big show, you tend to book big shows off of it

Keep her motivated and excited and to help her know HOW to have a big show (i.e. invite LOTS of people, collect outside orders, have her share her enthusiasm). It’s really fun to drive home from a $600 show thinking of all the great books the customers purchased & how happy their families will be, thinking of how excited the hostess is for ordering SO MANY FREE BOOKS, and realizing at the same time that you helped your family financially by about $175 (including bonus) for going to work where people smile and serve yummy snacks!

Getting Bookings & Setting Dates

How do you help them set a date?  This is a good way once you know they're interested in maybe having a show:
Is there a day of the week that's generally better for you than others?
Tuesday?
Great!  I have Tuesday the 20th or the 27th available.  Which is better for you?

It's handy to HOSTESS COACH several people at once at your show.  Sit down with them.  And say "I'd like to show you what's in your packets!"  Then go over each thing!
(You can do this over the phone if necessary, but much more effective to do in person)

(What to Include - Click Here)

When you get to the 8-10 customer order forms you could say something like, "I'm sure everyone you invite won't be able to come, but we know they'd love to see the books and have a chance to order!  Your outside orders are like your show insurance - you'll have these orders to add to your show total!  We generally have about $100 in outside orders before show date, so do let people who can't attend know that ordering is an option!"

When you get to the 30-40 postcard invitations you might say, "Here are about 30 invitations.  If you need more, just let me know.  Generally about 1/3 of the people you invite actually attend the show and that is if you let them know 3 times.
1 - Call them and let them know you're so excited to have this scheduled and that you want to get it on their calendar right away.  Tell them that she is sending a Reminder Card (invitation) for them to stick on their fridge.
2 - Send or hand out the invitations about 7-10 days in advance
3 - Call them two days before your show just to remind them and to get a final count.
I'll be in touch with you and we can talk about this anytime!  So, if you want 10 people there, invite 30 people.

** Tip to Increase Show Attendance **

On each show invitation, write the person's name and guest. For example, "Trina Williams & Guest". This will ensure they know to bring someone.  Remind them a day or so before the show.

When you point out the recruiting flyer:
"Our company is growing so quickly, someone from every show is often interested in becoming a consultant themselves, so I've included this incase someone asks you about it."  (This is planting the seed - not being pushy about it, just providing information - remember part of your job is to take them from NOT KNOWING to KNOWING.)

You can go through each page of the hostess guide and give them a BRIEF overview of what it says.  Encourage them to make a wishlist, as it makes their free book selection faster.
  • Look at them like you're going to be seeing them again and again.
  • Be friendly and warm.  SMILE!
  • LISTEN to them.
  • Make notes about them and the books they especially loved, their kids, etc.  This will help you remember them and you can refer to specific things about their lives when you talk with them again.
  • You're building a relationship that will last a long time!  Have fun!
